On Thursday it was announced that our state has an $825 million dollar surplus. This surplus did not appear out of thin air – it came from hard working taxpayers, families and small businesses.
The Republican budget in 2011 created a surplus of $2.8 billion and cost nothing. Today’s $825 million surplus created by Governor Dayton and the Democrats raised $2.1 billion in new taxes and obviously went too far. It is time to roll back some of the new tax increases and return that money to the hard working taxpayers who paid it in the first place.
My colleagues and I remain concerned that the long-term impact of the 2013 Dayton budget and the uncertainty of Obamacare and MNSure will be harmful to a healthy Minnesota economy.
